Privacy policy

Kaapi does not collect any data about you. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Your brew log stays on your iPhone.

The short version

Kaapi has no networking code in it. The app makes no requests to any server, mine or anyone else's, so there is no mechanism by which your information could reach me or a third party. Everything you enter is written to a database inside the app's own storage on your device.

What Kaapi stores, and where

On your device only:

• The coffee bags you add — roaster, name, origin, process, variety, elevation, roast date and tasting notes.
• Every brew you log — dose, grind setting, water, temperature, bloom, timings, how you rated it, and the adjustment Kaapi suggested.
• Your equipment — which grinder, kettle and brewer you told Kaapi you own.
• App preferences, such as whether you've finished the welcome flow.

Kaapi does not ask for and does not store your name, your email address, your location, your contacts, or any identifier that points back to you.

Camera

Kaapi asks for camera access for one purpose: reading the text printed on a coffee bag so you don't have to type it in. The recognition runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple's built-in Vision framework.

The photo is not saved to your library, not stored inside the app, and not uploaded anywhere. Kaapi keeps only the text it recognised and a colour sampled from the label, and discards the image when you leave the screen. You can decline camera access and type bag details in by hand.

Analytics, tracking and advertising

None. Kaapi contains no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising framework and no third-party libraries of any kind. It does not track you across apps or websites, and it collects nothing that Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework would apply to.

AI Assist

When adding a bag, Kaapi offers an optional shortcut: it copies a text prompt to your clipboard and can open ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini if you have one installed. Kaapi does not transmit anything itself — you choose whether to paste the prompt, and into which app.

Anything you paste into another company's app is handled under that company's privacy policy, not this one. The feature is entirely optional and Kaapi works fully without it.

Export and backups

Kaapi can export your whole log as a JSON file so you can back it up or move it to a new phone. That file goes wherever you send it, and from that point it's yours to look after. Kaapi does not upload it anywhere.

Separately, if you back up your iPhone to iCloud or to a computer, Apple's backup may include Kaapi's data along with the rest of your apps. That backup is governed by Apple's privacy policy and is under your control in your iOS settings.

Deleting your data

Delete individual bags and brews inside the app. To remove everything, delete the app from your iPhone — that removes its entire container, including your brew log. Because nothing was ever sent anywhere, there is nothing left for me to delete on your behalf.

Children

Kaapi is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of Kaapi ever collects or transmits anything — sync between your devices is the most likely reason — I'll update this page before that version ships, and say plainly what changed and what it means. The date at the top will tell you when it last moved.
