Kaapi helps you dial in your pourover coffee faster. Log each brew, rate how it tastes, and get one adjustment. Repeat until you're dialed in.

Getting started
1. Set up your equipment
On first launch, tell Kaapi which grinder and kettle you have. The grinder matters: every adjustment comes back in your grinder's own clicks, steps or marks, so "2 clicks finer" means something you can actually do.
2. Add a bag
Point your camera at the label and Kaapi reads what it can, or type it in yourself. Roaster, origin, process and variety all feed the suggestions you get later.
3. Brew and rate
Log your dose, grind, temperature and water. The timer walks you through the brew. Afterwards you answer two questions about the cup, and Kaapi gives you one change to make next time, with the reason.
4. Repeat until dialed
Each brew narrows the search. Most bags settle in three or four. Once a bag is dialed, Kaapi keeps that recipe and stops asking you to change things.
Questions
Which brewers does Kaapi work with?
Version 1.0 is built for the conical V60 and tuned specifically for it. Flat-bottom brewers, the Hario Switch and the AeroPress aren't supported yet — the advice Kaapi gives depends on how water actually moves through the bed, so adding a brewer means retuning the whole thing rather than adding a dropdown. They're the next thing I'm working on.
My grinder isn't in the list.
Pick the closest one, or choose a generic entry and set the range yourself in Settings → Equipment. Then email me which grinder you have and I'll add it.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, no login and no server. Open the app and start brewing.
Where is my data?
On your phone, and only on your phone. Kaapi makes no network requests at all. See the privacy policy for the details.
How do I back up my brew log, or move it to a new phone?
Go to Settings → Export. Kaapi writes your whole log as a single JSON file you can save to Files, email to yourself, or drop in iCloud Drive. On the other phone, use Settings → Import and pick that file.
Import only ever adds. It matches on identifiers, so importing the same file twice changes nothing, and importing an older backup on top of a newer log fills in only what's missing. Nothing is overwritten or deleted.
What does "dialed" mean?
A bag is dialed when you've rated a brew as tasting right. Kaapi stops suggesting changes, keeps that recipe as the bag's baseline, and shows it to you as your starting point every time you brew that coffee again.
My dialed bag stopped tasting good.
Coffee changes as it ages, so this is normal. Open the bag, log a brew, and choose Restart tasting questions on the dialed screen. Kaapi picks the search back up from where you are now.
Why only one adjustment at a time?
Because two changes at once tell you nothing. If you grind finer and raise the temperature and the cup improves, you don't know which one did it — and you can't repeat it. One change per brew is slower to type and much faster to arrive.
I want to experiment without losing my dialed recipe.
Once a bag is dialed, tap Let's experiment. Kaapi will nudge one variable at a time and remember your dialed recipe underneath, so you can keep the result or snap back to where you were.
What does the camera do?
It reads the text printed on a coffee bag so you don't have to type it. The reading happens entirely on your iPhone using Apple's built-in text recognition. The photo is never saved and never uploaded — Kaapi keeps the words it found and the label's colour, and discards the image.
What is "AI Assist" when I add a bag?
It's a shortcut for bags whose details are easier to look up than to type. Kaapi copies a prompt to your clipboard and can open ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini if you have them installed. You paste it there, and paste the answer back. Kaapi itself sends nothing anywhere, and the feature is entirely optional — everything works without it.
Does Kaapi sync between my devices?
Not yet. Your log lives on one phone. Export and import is the way to move it for now.
